What if 2015 were the year that you could be your best self? Work out every day, avoid foods with empty calories, don’t fuss at the person in the subway with the too-loud headphones, write every thank you note on time…
NO! Not that one. Just you. The real you. The authentic you. The you who comes out when you aren’t trying so hard. This New York Times article on wu wei, the Chinese art of “Effortless Action,” caught my eye. Remember when Stella Got Her Groove Back? If you’re too young to remember that movie, it’s when you go on vacation and for a moment you come back thinking clearly and productively. When we let go and approach things from a sense of the bigger picture, maybe a sense of purpose and impact, it’s so much easier to not sweat the details.
What would it be like if you had access to that thinking all the time. What impact would it have on your work, your relationships, your experience of living in the moment. If you have some time this holiday break, I’d love for you to take a look at the book “Positive Intelligence”. It takes the idea of the Times article and gives you some real tools to work with.
Happy Holidays and enjoy the last days of 2014!
