Knitting is having a moment — I see it everywhere.
I’m feeling so validated!
I’ve been knitting since I was 12.
And let’s be honest — knitting is a pretty old lady thing to do, especially in your teens.
Which is why I didn’t exactly shout it from the rooftops.
Authencity is hard like that.
Maybe “they” won’t take you seriously as a professional because of your quirky hobbies.
Maybe your way of doing things will mean you don’t belong.
Maybe you won’t be able to shine in the ways that will get you noticed.
But authenticity is also your power.
Once on a zoom call I said, “Hey, where did you get that blanket that’s draped over your desk chair?”
And the person responded, “Uh, Claire, you knitted it for me.”
Why would you hide something that’s had that sort of impact?
Knitting is magical. It’s therapeutic. It’s creative. It’s let me put the love on so many friends and family.

- Find your thing and embrace it. Triathlons, gourmet cooking, travel with friends. Creative endeavors are often super therapeutic and great for work-life balance.
- Stay the course. Knitting has taught me so much about patience, the importance of design, and challenging yourself.
- Let your skills build your confidence. In today’s crazy uncertainty, having something you know you’re good at is so grounding.
- Share little by little. People will have opinions about you and what you do. Start with people who know the whole you; let them be your advocates.
