Every year like clockwork, I get to February 1st and give myself a little kiss on both cheeks, “Huh…this year winter didn’t get to me.”
Then, like clockwork, I get to February 28th and say, “Whuuuutttt….happennneeed…” …
Less sunlight on skin, less socializing, less energy.
I feel greyed out, like what my kids call a “Non Player Character.” According to Wikipedia:
“In slang, “NPC” (short for Non-Player Character) refers to someone perceived as lacking independent thought or agency, acting predictably and repeating programmed responses like a character in a video game.”
Sounds about right.
And every year, as I’m kicking myself for not going to a warm weather destination, I remember that this feeling is part of an important arc.
Spring requires a lot of energy, and laying fallow lets us gather that energy.
So right about now, I take it slow.
I catch up with friends.
I get outside.
I let myself rest a little longer.
I put down my phone, which I’ve gotten a little sloppy with.
I make plans for things I’m excited about.
If you’re feeling the same combination of antsy with a side of lazy, try some little things.
The energy is building.
