The request I seem to get more than any other, from individuals and Human Resources professionals alike, is for greater confidence. For themselves and for their employees. It seems like a fairly normal request. What surprises me is that the request seems to come as much, or more, from the highest achieving individuals. When people have had multiple promotions at industry leading organizations, go to top ranked graduate schools, or work and live in one of the most competitive cities in the world, how could they still be experiencing a lack of confidence? Amazingly, accomplishment does not ensure confidence. So what does?
It’s got me wondering. Is confidence the new happiness? What is confidence made of? Under what circumstances do we feel it? It’s something I want to explore in the next several posts and would love input from you. Would you take a moment to reply to this email? (I will keep names confidential):
- What does confidence mean to you?
- When do you feel confident?
- What other thoughts do you have?
Thank you! I hope to be able to share some actionable insights.
Have a great week,
Claire
