Happy New Year-ish. On Monday, I wrote about the gap between New Year expectations and sometimes not feeling prepared to meet those expectations. When it’s freezing cold and the holidays have left us tired, the thought of making your next career move can feel like crossing the North Pole – a vast expanse and no clear milestones. Next week I share part of the solution – a step-by-step overview and roadmap for your next career move.
Last September, in a survey, you revealed the challenges you face in making a career move. Two-thirds of you are looking for a new job, while one third want to receive a promotion where you are. 36% don’t know what you want, 36% feel you are not networking effectively, and 12% are either not getting interviews or not getting offers. When it comes to what you want in a webinar, 29% want help figuring out what you want, 36% want help finding opportunities beyond what you see in your organization or online, 10% want networking help and 12% want interview techniques.
So… Let’s give you a step by step process for starting the job search or the promotion. Sound good?
There are two things I hear from clients all the time. The first is that they don’t know the tools of career strategy and planning. The second is that as soon as something they try doesn’t work, they don’t know what to do next. They give up.
A big problem is that we think that if we work hard enough, career will take care of itself.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. It may not sound romantic but it’s true. Yes work hard, but also learn the rules and spend a little time on strategy and planning. Then things start to happen.
Here is the content I will share next week:
